Lane Regional Medical Center (LRMC), located in Zachary, Louisiana, is a regional healthcare organization with the mission to provide exceptional health services to every patient, every time.
Valuing the community is at the forefront of LRMC’s work. The organization takes immense pride in its role as a caregiver, serving as the primary healthcare resource for more than 200,000 community members north of Baton Rouge.
Louisiana consistently ranks low on population health scores, and LRMC plays a critical role in the region by caring for patients with chronic diseases and behavioral risk factors.
But, like all healthcare organizations, LRMC felt the substantial effects and financial hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic. LRMC lost 40% of its revenue in March of 2020 and continued to undergo losses as the pandemic continued.
Mandated suspension of in-person clinic visits and non-urgent surgical procedures significantly reduced revenue, while the treatment of COVID-19 patients increased hospital expenses.
These constraints made it difficult for the LRMC IT department to fully support the staff’s evolving technology needs. But, they knew heightening their security and upgrading their IT environment was crucial for the organization.
Connected care providers receive a connected workplace makeover.
To better support organizations struggling with outdated technology, NGen IT, and Intel announced the Connected Workplace Makeover Contest. The contest selected three winners to share a $150,000 prize, helping transform their IT environments and addressing gaps in productivity, security, and IT cost optimization that were aggravated by the pandemic.
With the hopes of replacing aging devices (especially those running on the outdated Windows 7 operating system), the LRMC team applied for the contest — and won.
As one of three Connected Workplace Makeover Contest winners, LRMC was able to increase healthcare security and enhance patient care with modern hardware.
As cybercriminals are constantly finding new ways to attack healthcare organizations, it’s critical to run on up-to-date operating systems, as older versions can pose severe security risks. By moving beyond Windows 7, LRMC expanded its capacity to prevent hackers from taking advantage of vulnerabilities.
The Connected Workplace funding also allowed LRMC to upgrade their devices and better secure patient data. Additionally, modern solutions enabled providers to leverage Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and other modern treatment technologies more effectively.
