Allen Bradley 140M Motor Protection Circuit Breakers


Experience superior performance and world-class protection for your control system with Allen Bradley’s 140M range of Motor Protection Circuit Breakers. The Bulletin 140M MPCBs offer a disconnecting means for motor branch circuit, branch-circuit and short-circuit magnetic protection, overload thermal protection, and manual switching. They are rated from 0.1...45 A. These versatile units offer high switching capacity and high current limiting to ensure that you gain a safe, dependable and streamlined motor control process.


The 140M MPCBs are specifically designed to be used with the Allen Bradley 100-C contactor range to provide Type 2 co-ordination without oversizing of the contactor, in ratings up to 22kW. This ensures starters are more economical. The breaker may be customised to suit individual requirements.


These units are a cost-effective option for smaller-sized applications, offering increased functionality in less space. With the 140M no current limiters or back up fuses are needed, and they can be installed closer to supply transformers. Due to the compact size of these MPCBs you can save panel space and benefit from a more efficient control cabinet. They provide effortless mounting and installation via DIN rail.


For easy, automatic Type 2 co-ordination the circuit breaker and contactor can be selected according to the rated motor current – no complication calculations needed. The 140M units include 'ON', 'OFF', and 'TRIP' indication and are lockable in OFF position. They have ambient temperature compensation: -20 to +60°C.

The 140M circuit breakers can be conveniently combined with NEMA and IEC motor starters, overload relays, and contactors to suit your system needs. Design and installation of an integrated control system is fast, simple, and cost-efficient due to the consistent modular nature of the 140M range and the wide range of accessories available, saving you time and money. Notably, the unique front mounting trip/auxiliary contacts which give greater flexibility in signalling and supervising.


140M-F8E-C45 Circuit Breaker


The 140M-F8E-C45 MPCB has high breaking capacity and is Frame size F. It has an adjustable thermal current range of 32 – 45 A and a maximum available fault current of 5kA. The supply voltage of 480 V, 60 Hz.

What is a Motor Protection Circuit Breaker?


An MPCB is a safety measure device which is used for controlling electric motors and protecting them from faults such as overloads and short circuits, which can cause serious damage to the motor. They work by interrupting the circuit when abnormal conditions are detected and instantly switching off the motor. The three main functions of an MCPB are thermal protection, magnetic protection, and phase protection. They can also turn a motor off and on manually. They are a cost-efficient and reliable type of motor protection technology and offer a low reset time, which minimises operational downtime. They are available in many different sizes and settings, making them a versatile option.
